Forum: GratefulDead Subject: How did I not catch a Lazy>Supplication? Saw a few dozen shows 80-84

In the first four years I was seeing the band I never one caught a Lazyp>Supp. I have no idea how- I caught an inordinate number of High Time's and Dupree's for the time period. What about you? Did you miss a regular rotation song regularly and at the same time catch a rarity or two more than you could have expected?

It seems like I saw every Hey Pocky Way ever played on the east coast, but could never catch a Dupree's or They Love Each Other and for the longest time I would always miss Stagger Lee by one show. It was my favorite song back then and I would get pissed off when they would play Tennessee Jed or Row Jimmy in the Stagger Lee typical slot. I saw 4 of 7 MSG shows in 1988 and missed the 2 Stagger Lee's on that run.

Got one Lazy lightning in worchester 84'.
Very glad I did. Great song. Also lucky in the Morning Dew
dept.Saw Hampton 84' came home, went back up to Philly and caught another. '84 Dew's were outrageous.

Never got a LL either. Never got a morning dew with Brent or bruce. Keith was before my touring days. Wasn't until 93 until I got my first MD

Not that these were that good in terms of quality since it was the 93-94... but I saw 3 of the last 6 Dark Stars.

93-03-17
93-09-13
94-03-30

I saw shows from end of 79 - 85 fairly regularly in North East, never caught a St Stephen or Dark Star. Caught quite a few Lazy Lightnin' > Supplications, in fact one of my first shows - 11/2/79. A real nice Dupree's up in Maine (9/17/82).

Uh . . . What was the question?

Not sure if these were rarities, but to me they were: Ramble on Rose & Deep Elem - saw at least once

Now that you mention it, I saw a large number of High Times and Duprees during the same period - and also Peggy-Os, which made me very happy - but never once a Lazy Lightnin' - I did see an instrumental Supplication, in Providence in 1980, that led into Estimated.

I saw 46 East Coast shows between 1979 and 1982, and another 10 in California between 83 and 89 and never once saw Must Have Been The Roses, one of my all-time faves ...
